Research

Within the Montpetit Laboratory, we explore the biology of life through the lens of microbiology. Specifically, we use the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae to investigate how cells respond to their environment, focusing on gene expression regulation and the central dogma of molecular biology. We choose S. cerevisiae for its powerful genetic, biochemical, and cell biological tools, as well as its central role in numerous industries with a long-standing role in fermentation. Key sectors include Food and Beverage, Biofuel and Biochemical Production, Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology, Agriculture and Animal Feed, and Cosmetics. To learn more about our research, please visit the Montpetit laboratory website or explore our publications on PubMed.
